Course Contents

【Preschool】

Children in preschool engage in singing, playing, and dancing activities conducted both in Japanese and English. Weekly programs include: Alphabet (Monday), Research play (Tue), Outdoor play (Wed), Numbers / shapes / colors (Thu), and Fun day (Fri)

【Kindergarten】

Classes are team-taught by Japanese and foreign teachers. Communication and teamwork are emphasized as foundations for learning play, music, art, numeracy, and literacy in the later years

【Elementary】

Math, social studies, English, and science are taught using the PYP framework of inquiry. Foreign and Japanese teachers team-teach classes and intensive Japanese education is also provided. For students struggling with English or Japanese, pull-out classes and extracurricular online support are available

【Middle】

The MYP is founded upon holistic learning, intercultural understanding, and communication. In addition to language & literature, individuals & societies, mathematics, design, visual arts, sciences, physical and health education, and language acquisition, the curriculum incorporates community service activities and a personal project. Middle school students attempt various certifications, including the Eiken, TOEFL, Mathematic Proficiency Test, and the Kanji Aptitude Test

【High】

Students enroll in either the International Baccalaureate course or the international liberal arts course. The ILA course is unique to OIS, designed to nurture global-minded students. About 40% of the content in the first year of the ILA is taught in Japanese. There is a study-abroad program

ICT/STEM Education

Kindergarten classes use iPads. Elementary school introduces coding, a computer programming class, to elementary school to further hone their ICT skills
